Ottawa Community Coalition for Literacy - Welcome!

Ontario Adult Literacy Curriculum Framework
(OALCF)

The Ontario Adult Literacy Curriculum Framework (OALCF) is task-based, learner-centred, goal-directed and transitions-oriented. The OALCF will provide the standards to link the LBS Program to the labour force and to the broader education and training system.

Task-Based
The OALCF supports the development of task-based programming. Tasks are relevant activities that bundle skills and knowledge in unique ways. They are activities that a learner can expect to do in a job, at home or in the community. There are three task complexity levels in the OALCF for assessment purposes.

Goal-Directed
The OALCF defines the scope of the LBS Program using five goal paths for learners:

  • Employment
  • Apprenticeship
  • Secondary School Credit
  • Postsecondary
  • Independence

Transitions-Oriented
The OALCF builds on current literacy practices and strengthens the links between the LBS Program and Ontario’s employment, education and training system.

You can access the OALCF Tools and Resources Summaries at the link below. This is similar to a bibliography and lists the documents that have been produced so far. It is a good reference guide and contains links to all of the resources for easy accessibility.

The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU) encourages service delivery organizations to contact them with questions, concerns and comments about the OALCF. You can contact them at oalcf@ontario.ca (English and French) or talk to your Employment Training Consultant. OCCL encourages programs to share major concerns and any responses received from MTCU with the members of the Local Planning and Coordination Committee.
